Community & Involvement

Community involvement has been part of Miles Consulting Group for as long as there’s been a firm. The same philosophy that guides the client work (long-term relationships and showing up where it matters) is the one that guides how we give back, in the Silicon Valley and Bay Area communities where we live and work.

Much of it reflects causes that are personally meaningful to the team: women’s leadership and professional mentorship, education, and breast cancer awareness.

Women’s Leadership & the Profession

Monika has been active in the accounting and women-in-business communities for most of her career. She served as National President of the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA) and as President of the Silicon Valley chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), and the firm has long supported scholarship and mentorship programs connected to both.

Along the way, that work has been recognized, Monika has been named a Woman of Influence by AFWA, honored multiple years running as one of CPA Practice Advisor’s Most Powerful Women in Accounting, recognized as a Woman of Influence by the Silicon Valley Business Journal, and celebrated by NAWBO’s Silicon Valley chapter. The recognition is gratifying, but the involvement behind it (the mentoring, the chapters, the scholarships) is the part that actually matters to her.

Meet the Team

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

One cause is especially close to home. Coming from a family touched by breast cancer, Monika has supported the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer since it began in the Bay Area, more than two decades of walking, fundraising, and showing up, raising over $300,000 over that time. The firm continues to participate in and sponsor the effort each year. It’s the kind of long-term commitment that says as much about how we work as anything on our services pages.

Giving Back, Locally

Over the years the firm has supported a wide range of Bay Area and California nonprofits: organizations working on education and youth programs, homelessness and housing, food assistance, healthcare, and animal welfare. When the firm marked a major anniversary, it celebrated by giving back to ten local organizations at once, among them the Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley, Martha’s Kitchen, Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen, Family Supportive Housing, the Humane Society Silicon Valley, Good Karma Bikes, the Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and Youth N.O.W. in Watsonville.

We also annually support the Sunnyvale Rotary in their annual charity golf tournament and The San Mateo/Burlingame Auxiliary benefiting Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and are a corporate sponsor of the NAWBO Silicon Valley Chapter.

The specific organizations may change over time. The pattern doesn’t: practical support for the places, close to home, that do real good.

A Note on Our Affiliations

Staying involved professionally is part of how we stay current. Members of the team participate in organizations including AFWA, NAWBO, ProVisors, XPX (Exit Planning Exchange), CFO Leadership Council,CalCPA, COCPA, the AICPA, and the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT), which keeps us close to the evolving rules, the audit trends, and the practical issues that companies and their advisors are dealing with across states.
