Privacy Policy of Miles Consulting Group
A Note From Monika
Our business runs on trust. Clients tell us things about their companies that they have not told anyone else, sometimes before they have told their own board. We treat that information the same way whether it reaches us in a conference room, in an email, or through a form on this website.
We do not sell information about the people who visit this site, and we do not put a client’s name anywhere without asking first. This page explains what we collect here, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it.
Monika Miles, Founder
1. About This Policy
This policy describes the information Miles Consulting Group collects through milesconsultinggroup.com, through the scheduling tools linked from this site, and through our newsletters and other marketing communications.
It does not cover the information clients provide during an engagement. Financial, tax, and business records we receive in order to do our work are governed by our engagement agreements and by the professional confidentiality obligations we operate under.
2. Information We Collect
Information you give us directly:
- Your name, business email address, phone number, company name, and role, when you fill out a form or email us.
- Whatever you choose to write in a message to us, including the description of your situation.
- The details you provide when you book a call, including the time you select and the topic you choose.
- Your email address when you subscribe to one of our newsletters.
Information collected automatically when you visit:
- IP address, browser and device type, operating system, the pages you view, how long you spend on them, and the site or search that sent you here.
- An approximate geographic location, estimated from your IP address. This is city or region level, not a precise location.
- A record of your cookie choices. When you answer the banner described in Section 7, we store your selection so the site can honor it on later visits. That record stays on our own server rather than going to an outside company.
We do not ask for Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, or federal or state tax identification numbers through this website, and we ask that you not send them to us by email or through a form. Once an engagement is underway, we will collect what we need through a secure channel.
3. Sources of Information
Most of what we hold comes directly from you. The rest is collected automatically by the technologies described in Section 7 when you use the site.
4. Our Use of Information
We use the information described above to respond to inquiries, to schedule and prepare for conversations, to send the newsletters and updates you have asked to receive, to understand how the site is used so we can make it more useful, and to meet our legal, tax, and professional obligations.
We do not use information collected through this site to make automated decisions about anyone.
5. Sharing Information
We share personal information in two situations.
With service providers who work on our behalf. These are companies we contract with to run the website, host our email and client records, manage scheduling, deliver newsletters, and measure how the site performs. They are permitted to use the information only to provide those services to us.
When the law requires it. We may disclose information in response to a subpoena, court order, or other lawful request from a government agency or regulator, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or comply with a legal obligation.
We may also transfer information as part of a merger, sale, or acquisition of the firm or its assets.
6. Scheduling a Call
Calls are booked through a scheduling tool linked from this site. When you book, that tool collects your name, email address, the time you select, and anything you write in the notes field. It processes that information on our behalf. Booking a call means you will receive confirmations and reminders about the meeting.
Please do not include account numbers, tax identification numbers, or detailed financial figures when you book. An introductory conversation does not require them.
7. Cookies and Similar Technologies
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. When you first arrive here, a banner asks which kinds you are willing to accept. Nothing beyond the essentials loads until you answer, so the choice is yours before anything is set rather than after.
- Essential cookies, which make the site work. These handle page loading, security, and remembering the choice you made on the banner. They are always on, because the site cannot operate without them.
- Analytics cookies, which tell us how many people visit, which pages they read, and where they arrived from. We use this to decide what to write and what to fix. We do not use it to identify individual visitors.
- Cookies set by embedded video. Several pages include videos hosted on YouTube. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced embed, which does not set tracking cookies when a page loads. If you choose to play a video, YouTube may set cookies at that point, and YouTube’s own privacy policy governs what it does with them.
Because of the embed we use, the videos on this site load and play whether or not you accept analytics cookies. Pressing play is your decision, and it is the moment at which YouTube may begin setting its own.
You can change your mind at any time through the Cookie Preferences link in the footer. A full list of the cookies this site sets, including what each one does and how long it lasts, is on our Cookie Policy page.
8. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers can send a Do Not Track signal. There is still no agreed industry standard for how a website should respond to it, and this site does not respond to Do Not Track signals.
This site does honor the Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser sends it, we treat it as a request not to share your information for advertising purposes and apply it to your visit automatically. You do not need to do anything else, and you will not be asked twice.
9. Your California Privacy Rights
California law gives residents specific rights over personal information. We extend these rights to everyone who contacts us through this site, whether or not the law requires it in a particular case.
- The right to know what personal information we have collected about you, where it came from, why we collected it, and who we have shared it with.
- The right to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- The right to ask us to delete your information, subject to records we are required to keep.
- The right to direct us not to sell or share your personal information.
- The right to limit our use of sensitive personal information.
- The right not to be treated differently for exercising any of these rights.
To make a request, email us or call the number at the end of this policy. We will confirm your identity before we respond, and we will answer within 45 days. If a request is complex and we need more time, we will tell you before that deadline and explain why.
10. Client Confidentiality
We do not name clients on this website. The situations described in our success stories are real, and they are anonymized by default. Where a client is identified anywhere on this site or in our materials, it is because that client asked us to or agreed to it.
That has been how we work since 2002, and it does not change because something is going on a website.
11. Data Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards intended to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. No website or system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that information sent over the internet is safe in transit. Sensitive documents should reach us through the secure channel we set up at the start of an engagement, not by email.
12. Information Retention
We keep personal information for as long as it serves the purpose it was collected for, and then for as long as we are required to keep it for legal, tax, and professional recordkeeping. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Website analytics data is retained on the schedule set in the analytics tool. The record of your cookie choices is kept for the period set in our consent tool, after which the banner will ask again.
13. Children’s Privacy
This site is intended for business use. We do not direct it to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it.
14. Links to Other Sites
This site links to other websites, including our scheduling tool, our client resources, and organizations we work with. We do not control those sites, and this policy does not apply to them. We suggest reading the privacy policy of any site you visit from here.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects how we handle personal information, we will post a notice on the site so it is visible rather than relying on the date alone.
